Friends describe me as warm, smart and fun. The main thing I believe I have to offer others is an ability to give in a relationship. Although I hope to find someone who shares my interests, more important to me is good communication, a love of family, and eagerness to make the most of life. Maybe you, like me, are discovering what a liberating time of life this is!
I love travel, discussing issues great and small, discovering an inviting cafe, or sailing to a quiet cove on Chesapeake Bay. As a former Peace Corps volunteer (Afghanistan), I have always relished getting on the road and seeing what likes out there.
I raised my family and worked as a journalist in Maine before moving to DC, which has won my heart. Today, I enjoy a wonderful balance of living a life of my own, discovering new places, people and ideas, while nourishing
close relationships with my grown kids and their families.
Chicago is my hometown, but I have lived on both coasts. Jobs along the way have included English teaching, newspaper reporting, and reporting on human rights abuses in Africa for Human Rights Watch. I love to hear people's stories, try to give voice to those who don't have a voice, and follow the intellectual,political and social change currents of our time.
I have been happy to teach English to adult immigrants as a volunteer for the past eight years, and am now volunteering for a refugee support group.
What else? I love foreign films, sailing, exploring places overseas or in my own back yard.
For immediate pleasure: jazz, classical, opera and many other kinds of music; good literature, quality journalism, international affairs. And popcorn.
